Installing a new floppy disk drive
The floppy disk drive allows you to save and transport data
from your computer. Almost all computers today come with a 3.5 inch
disk drive ( that is the only type you see unless you have been using
computersfor a loooong time (like 10 years) and still remenber the real floppy
disks, the 5.25 inch disks). Installing a new floppy drive is very
easy. There is no need to install software or drivers or anything else.
It's truly plug and play.
To install a floppy drive:
-
First turn off your computer and unplug it.
-
Remove the case.
-
Note where the old drive is and see if you need to remove any other components
to get to it.
-
Disconnect the cable attaching the drive to the mother board. This will be
a flat grey cable.
-
Disconnect the floppy drive from the power supply. This is done by
removing a couple of small read, yellow, and black wires that all connect
to one white plastic tip. Gently, yet firmly pull the plug out.
-
Now unscrew the old drive and remove it from the case.
-
Insert the new drive where the old one went and screw it in.
-
Plug the power supply back into it and then plug the grey cable comming
off the motherboard into it.
-
Now screw the case back on.
-
Plug your computer back in and your done!
